The Ministry for the Ecological Transition has launched, through IDAE and with European FEDER funds, a new call for grants to support innovative energy storage projects linked to renewable energy sources.
This funding line is part of the PERTE for Renewable Energies, Renewable Hydrogen, and Storage (ERHA).
Application deadline: July 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM
Grants are awarded through a competitive process, so both technical quality and submission timing are crucial.
What can be subsidized and key requirements?
- Only the battery (storage system) is eligible for the subsidy.
- Maximum eligible cost: €250/kWh.
- The system must be hybridized with renewable energy sources (fossil fuels, aerothermal systems, and off-grid systems are not eligible).
- A minimum battery capacity is required to qualify.
- Eligible applicants: Large industrial consumers, SMEs with self-consumption, and entities with storage projects.
- Cybersecurity requirements: Servers must be located within the EU and comply with NIS2/311/2022 regulations.
- The subsidy percentage depends on the geographic area:
Criteria to improve your project’s score
Beyond the basic requirements, your project may receive a higher score if it meets the following criteria:
- European manufacturing of the battery or its components.
- Permits processed before 2025, including access point, environmental impact declaration (EID), construction license, land use permits, etc.
- Contribution to the European value chain and industrial resilience: A minimum of 3 points in this category is required; projects scoring below this threshold will be disqualified.
- Location in a priority area as defined by REE (Red Eléctrica de España).
- Grid-forming system capabilities: Technological innovations that help stabilize the grid will be valued.
